Old Enough To Know Better

Another oldie...but placed here today, October 17, with purpose. I actually wrote this in April in the midst of anxiety about our impending move. But today I am placing it here for a different reason.

April, 2007
You’re old enough to know better." I inwardly despised this phrase growing up but strangely, I find comfort in it now.

Tonight I posted a comment on a friend’s blog and said, "He giveth more grace." It was sincere and not intended to be glib. I have experienced His grace and so I can comment with personal testimony. I’m old enough to know.

Lately in my Streams of the Desert devotional, I read "When thou passest through the waters…they shall not overflow thee." (Is 43:2) "God does not open paths for us in advance of our coming. He does not promise help before help is needed. He does not remove obstacles out of our way before we reach them. Yet we are on the edge of our need, God’s hand is stretched out.

…I forget this and worry about the difficulties I forsee in the future. I’d like God to make the way plain and open before me, miles and miles ahead; but He has promised to do it only step by step as I need. I must get to the waters and into the floods before I can claim the promise.

I love the lyrics of this song by Annie Johnson Flint:

He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials He multiplies peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again

I’m old(er) enough to know… better. :-)

It was a poor excuse to bring over yet another old blog. I know know if it is true or not that Yahoo is going to close their blog hosting site but many these were written out of the the circumstances of a somewhat chaotic year (at least emotionally) and I want to be able to look back and remember to what God accomplished in those times.

Thanks you for the birthday wishes! I had such a wonderful, blessed day and I am looking forward to sharing the pictures
today after Bible Study. I loaded them last night but kept getting error messages from Blogger. It's the learning curve!

Thanks again!

February 27 Update

I just called to see if Amy wanted to blog anything today, but at the moment she is talking on the phone to her wonderful friend, Deb Rose. Deb and her husband, Brian, used to live in Louisville several years ago. They were our very best friends. If I were talking to the Roses this evening, I would tell them that Amy is desperately scared. The docs have given her a very stiff dose of antibiotics, but as of this moment, her body temp is climbing once again. Her primary doctor told her he fears that this infection may be fungal in nature. I don’t completely understand all of the implications, except that we are shooting at this infection with our biggest guns, but it just keeps on coming. In her introspective manner, she shared with me today that if she had known she would lose her sight, she would have invested it more wisely in the things she read and watched: “What if I go completely blind and can’t read the Bible? I have to get more serious about memorizing.” This morning a do...

March 2: HOME!!

From his vantage point at our front door, three-year old Seth delightedly shrieked, "Mommy," and I turned in time to see Amy being driven down our long driveway. Our three blond-haired boys buried their faces in their mother. Even the house sighed contentedly. Amy's home. A Happy Husband, David

Homeschooling Curriculum Help?

Shannon is hosting a backwards edition of what-works-for-me Wednesday , where you can ask for advice/ or suggestions instead of giving them. Yeah! I need some advice. David and I are really praying and considering homeschooling our boys, K4 and grades 2 and 6 —beginning this fall. Can anybody recommend a curriculum, either as a whole or as a subject, that you are crazy about that doesn’t make you crazy? Secondly, if you could give one tip for “survival” what would that be?
