Simply Amy

Do you all remember when I wrote this on August 3, 2007?

Last night I found myself wandering the halls of the unknown …searching for the boys’ classrooms and meeting their teachers. So far I am known by this; "Ohhh, you’re Dr. Balty’s wife." Usually the conversation plunges into the possible (probable in one case) misuse of the English language and that David might somehow discover these errors and like any good teacher, return the paper with big red circles.
"Dr. Balty’s wife" isn’t a title that I mind. In fact, I still look instinctively for David’s mom when someone says, "Mrs. Balty." So as proud as I am to be "Dr. Balty’s wife", "Zachary’s mom", or "Samuel’s mom," among friends I am known simply as "Amy." And I look forward to hearing that again.

Today was the second time I went to Bible study at church. To meet other moms of all ages is such a blessing. And everyone uses my first name!

I’ll try to write a little bit later about the session today on prayer. I was reminded how many of you have been truly bearing my burden with me. The reality is I can feel your prayers too. I am humbled and so, so grateful.

Would love to hear more about your session on prayer today. I'm so glad you feel our prayers. God has been giving me the desire, fervency and importunity in prayer that I have been asking Him for. I am excited to see how God answers our prayers!

Amy,
Thank you for leaving your comment on my blog. I was so excited to have a comment from someone I "didn't know". You made my day. I see you just moved to Atlanta. I lived there several years ago for a year or so. I have enjoyed reading your blog tonight. I will also be praying for your further medical tests next week.

Amy,

I have really enjoyed finding your blog. I don't have a lot of time on a computer with internet access, but I am at my parent's house right now and they have wireless! So I am catching up on the happenings in the "blog world". I identified with your blog on being simply "Amy". As you know, Jamey is a pastor; I have fought being called "the pastor's wife". Most people at my church know that I prefer to be known as "Cara." So people will often apologize to me when they end up introducing me as "the pastor's wife." (Unless, of course, they are trying to tease me!) I am very blessed to have friends with whom I am just "Cara". Also, I empathize with you in your quest to adjust to a new location. We've moved many times and while it can be exciting, it can also be stressful. I'm glad that you are finding good things in Atlanta.

Praying with you, Amy! I'm excited to hear what your learning about prayer...I definitely want my prayer life to grow, even in these busy times of raising little ones. I pray you have a true Sabbath rest tomorrow--one where your heart and mind are in one accord in the perfect love of Christ (that casts out fear)!

Homeschooling Curriculum Help?

Shannon is hosting a backwards edition of what-works-for-me Wednesday , where you can ask for advice/ or suggestions instead of giving them. Yeah! I need some advice. David and I are really praying and considering homeschooling our boys, K4 and grades 2 and 6 —beginning this fall. Can anybody recommend a curriculum, either as a whole or as a subject, that you are crazy about that doesn’t make you crazy? Secondly, if you could give one tip for “survival” what would that be?

February 27 Update

I just called to see if Amy wanted to blog anything today, but at the moment she is talking on the phone to her wonderful friend, Deb Rose. Deb and her husband, Brian, used to live in Louisville several years ago. They were our very best friends. If I were talking to the Roses this evening, I would tell them that Amy is desperately scared. The docs have given her a very stiff dose of antibiotics, but as of this moment, her body temp is climbing once again. Her primary doctor told her he fears that this infection may be fungal in nature. I don’t completely understand all of the implications, except that we are shooting at this infection with our biggest guns, but it just keeps on coming. In her introspective manner, she shared with me today that if she had known she would lose her sight, she would have invested it more wisely in the things she read and watched: “What if I go completely blind and can’t read the Bible? I have to get more serious about memorizing.” This morning a do

Amy does not feel well enough to blog today, so the sub is blogging on her behalf. Yesterday Amy thought she saw some new spots in her left eye and felt that she was experiencing some of the same sensations that she had during her stroke, so she went to the doctor. He said that he sees no new lesions, but that doesn’t mean that she couldn’t have another stroke. He recommended that she begin steroids to reduce any retinal inflammation. Amy continues to need your prayers. Blessings, David
