The finale...I think

We arrived safely in the Quad Cities and it became exceedingly difficult to pull away. For the first summer in David's career, he had the flexibility in his schedule to allow us to stay and though there were some very emotional times, as we all began to learn of Don's prognosis, we had some wonderful days too. One of those times was July 4th.

David's sister and her family came from Des Moines and stayed close to a week or more. Our children are relatively close in age and get along well --and considering each of us has 1 spitfire (who will remain unnamed :-) --that's amazing!

We tried to do as many fun things as we could when David's dad felt well: a trip to Galena, IL, ate at Famous Dave's Barbeque, a day at Niabi Zoo.

But the boys had the most fun on a boat in the Mississippi River.

Dan Dodd (a member from the Bible Missonary Church where David's parents attend) invited David and the boys out on his boat. Oh excited they were! Poor Dan! A few things that he will think about if there would ever be a next time...

1. Never, ever allow Samuel to sit on your lap while taking off your glasses as Samuel is prone to sudden, impulsive movements!

2. Always look behind so as NOT to step in a live bait well that might have been left open by Samuel.

3. Be on the look out for a fishing rod being cast by an amateur 7-year old fisherboy--need I say more?

I suspect the next time we visit church with David's parents, Dan will quickly slip out of another door. Who could blame him!

I think I can guess who the spitfire's are just from the pictures....too funny.

Your nieces are beautiful girls - enjoyed all the pictures from your summer trip and the boat warnings were great!

Amy,

Enjoyed reading about your trip! Samuel sounds like a hoot!

Thanks for the comments on homeschooling. I noticed that your one son is taking piano lessons. How long has this been going on? And did you push him into it? Cameron is eligible for band this year, but is not that enthusiastic about it. I, on the other hand, loved band and am sure that if he just got into it he would like it. But I'm not sure if I should push him on this. Any ideas or experiences to pass along in these matters?

Homeschooling Curriculum Help?

Shannon is hosting a backwards edition of what-works-for-me Wednesday , where you can ask for advice/ or suggestions instead of giving them. Yeah! I need some advice. David and I are really praying and considering homeschooling our boys, K4 and grades 2 and 6 —beginning this fall. Can anybody recommend a curriculum, either as a whole or as a subject, that you are crazy about that doesn’t make you crazy? Secondly, if you could give one tip for “survival” what would that be?

February 27 Update

I just called to see if Amy wanted to blog anything today, but at the moment she is talking on the phone to her wonderful friend, Deb Rose. Deb and her husband, Brian, used to live in Louisville several years ago. They were our very best friends. If I were talking to the Roses this evening, I would tell them that Amy is desperately scared. The docs have given her a very stiff dose of antibiotics, but as of this moment, her body temp is climbing once again. Her primary doctor told her he fears that this infection may be fungal in nature. I don’t completely understand all of the implications, except that we are shooting at this infection with our biggest guns, but it just keeps on coming. In her introspective manner, she shared with me today that if she had known she would lose her sight, she would have invested it more wisely in the things she read and watched: “What if I go completely blind and can’t read the Bible? I have to get more serious about memorizing.” This morning a do

Amy does not feel well enough to blog today, so the sub is blogging on her behalf. Yesterday Amy thought she saw some new spots in her left eye and felt that she was experiencing some of the same sensations that she had during her stroke, so she went to the doctor. He said that he sees no new lesions, but that doesn’t mean that she couldn’t have another stroke. He recommended that she begin steroids to reduce any retinal inflammation. Amy continues to need your prayers. Blessings, David
