Okay, where were we? Heading home, I guess...to David's parents, anyway. Grandpa had one more destination up his sleeve though--The Great Platte River Road Archway. It was a great finale to our trip. The Archway is an interactive adventure that pays tribute to the pioneers who passed through Nebraska on their way West. Wearing headsets, we listened in on "conversations" and watched the exhilaration and heartbreak of the journey. It was really neat. And I think seeing it at the end of our trip, it all made more sense to the boys because they had seen some of the places that the exhibits displayed. Even Seth had his favorite parts of the arch: a window at the top of the arch where you could watch the cars speeding by on I-80 and the escalator! (Grandma pointing out something to Samuel on a map--Samuel LOVES maps!)

We arrived safely in the Quad Cities on Thursday, July 26. We planned to leave the next day after Don's bone marrow biopsy. We didn't leave then so they'll be more to come...

What adorable boys you have! I am so enjoying looking and reading your blog!! I am so glad you are doing well!! I am going to have to visit your blog again tomorrow as my mommy "meter" is going off!! My youngest has a bad cold and her cough keeps waking her up, so she is crying "rocky, rocky" so I need to go rock her back to sleep!!

Hi Amy! Troy was so excited when I somehow stumbled across your blog!! He was just asking someone from Hobe Sound the other day if they know David. He wants me to ask you to tell David "Hi"! I have also started a blog....truitttimes@blogspot.com I know you have posted on Andrea's carepage before but up until about 1 week ago I couldn't get anyones email address. I think I can get them now. Hope you all are doing okay. Maybe David and Troy can exchange phone #s sometime and catch up! Will look forward to staying in touch through blogging!

I just called to see if Amy wanted to blog anything today, but at the moment she is talking on the phone to her wonderful friend, Deb Rose. Deb and her husband, Brian, used to live in Louisville several years ago. They were our very best friends. If I were talking to the Roses this evening, I would tell them that Amy is desperately scared. The docs have given her a very stiff dose of antibiotics, but as of this moment, her body temp is climbing once again. Her primary doctor told her he fears that this infection may be fungal in nature. I don’t completely understand all of the implications, except that we are shooting at this infection with our biggest guns, but it just keeps on coming. In her introspective manner, she shared with me today that if she had known she would lose her sight, she would have invested it more wisely in the things she read and watched: “What if I go completely blind and can’t read the Bible? Homeschooling Curriculum Help?

Shannon is hosting a backwards edition of what-works-for-me Wednesday , where you can ask for advice/ or suggestions instead of giving them. Yeah! I need some advice. David and I are really praying and considering homeschooling our boys, K4 and grades 2 and 6 —beginning this fall. Can anybody recommend a curriculum, either as a whole or as a subject, that you are crazy about that doesn’t make you crazy? Secondly, if you could give one tip for “survival” what would that be?

Feb 27 Update

Amy was sleeping when I left her tonight – I have that effect on people. In this case, she really needs sleep. She was awake most of last night. I left around 10:30, shortly after the neurologist told her that nothing else has gone wrong with her eyes today. Wonderful news! Earlier this afternoon the infectious disease doctor told her that the infection has subsided to the point where she no longer needs IV infusions of antibiotics: now she can take them by mouth. Her temp has fluctuated between 99 and 100 most of the day. The docs aren’t too concerned until she hits 100.5. God is clearly helping her physically. May I give you three specific prayer requests? Amy’s blood pressure has been edging up again. One reason the docs want to check her heart is to see if she has developed a clotting abnormality, especially to make sure that she won’t be sending any clots out of her heart.
