February 26, pm

I’ve always tried to be honest here, and this post is no different. I am scared; the news from the retinal specialist today was not good. It appears to him that I have had strokes in both my eyes; however, the strokes in my right eye are outside of my field of vision, so I can still see. But my left eye has very little vision, a loss that my doctors fear will be permanent.

The cause of the stroke is unclear. Because my doc is concerned that I could have stokes in other locations of my body, tonight finds me in Southern Regional Medical center in Atlanta, GA, being evaluated from head to toe. I should have a CT scan of my brain sometime tonight, and neurology (along with every other known specialist) will visit in the morning.

I wish I could say that I am totally at peace, but the mom and wife in me fear that the things that I have so easily taken for granted could possibly be lost forever: seeing my boys play ball, watching their faces change as they grow older, seeing David’s eyes light up when he comes home.

I am praying along with you that God will spare my right eye and miraculously touch my left eye. Your prayers and support give me so much strength.

As David prayed with me tonight on the way to the hospital, he prayed from Job. So for tonight I’ll say along with Job, “God gives and takes away, Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Oh Amy! there are no words... but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. I am lifting you to the Father, dear friend, and believing He will keep you in the best possible care. I am praying for restoration of sight to both of your eyes.

Amy, Susan has kept me up-to-date on the events of yesterday. Even though she was heading home to host the Bible Study in her home, you were on her mind! (Was it last night she was bringing dinner?) I am so glad her eye doctor got you in right away and am praying that God will heal you today!! I'm sure the Bible Study group is also holding you up in prayer along with your many, many friends across the country!! I'll be back in Atlanta next weekend and will be checking in on you then!!

Amy,
Am continuing to pray for all of you! And I have asked some great intercessors to pray too. I can't imagine what you are feeling but know that you are supported by prayer! I know what God can do and I also know God's plans are not always ours - but He will be with you always! Praying that God's peace will hold you right now.

Dear Amy, I am so sorry to learn of your health problems. The first time you went to my blog I had only just started it with the topic that miracles still happen, after my daughter's wreck. I know God answers prayers and you are certainly being covered by them. Thanks to David and Carole for keeping us updated. Love, LINDA

Amy,

Hello from Kentucky. I have been reading your blog for several months, and they are such a blessing. I have been praying for you since I started reading it. I know how difficult moving can be! I just wanted you and David to know that I am praying for you and will ask others to cover you in prayer. You, David and the boys are truly missed at Whitefield.

Love,

Yvonne

Oh Amy - I am SO sorry! This is so hard to understand as you have already been through so much. We will continue to pray for you and your family.
My heart hurts, and I have been crying and praying for you on a very constant basis. Your face will just appear in my mind and I will stop and bring you to our Father, a Healer, a constant in our times of trouble.
You have been a very big help and inspiration to me Amy. I don't know what the plans He has for you, but of course, He never gives us more than we can handle.
I am not only praying for the healing of your eyes and body, but also that He will wrap His arms around you with love, comfort and peace, no matter what you will be facing.
I love you Amy!

Homeschooling Curriculum Help?

Shannon is hosting a backwards edition of what-works-for-me Wednesday , where you can ask for advice/ or suggestions instead of giving them. Yeah! I need some advice. David and I are really praying and considering homeschooling our boys, K4 and grades 2 and 6 —beginning this fall. Can anybody recommend a curriculum, either as a whole or as a subject, that you are crazy about that doesn’t make you crazy? Secondly, if you could give one tip for “survival” what would that be?

February 27 Update

I just called to see if Amy wanted to blog anything today, but at the moment she is talking on the phone to her wonderful friend, Deb Rose. Deb and her husband, Brian, used to live in Louisville several years ago. They were our very best friends. If I were talking to the Roses this evening, I would tell them that Amy is desperately scared. The docs have given her a very stiff dose of antibiotics, but as of this moment, her body temp is climbing once again. Her primary doctor told her he fears that this infection may be fungal in nature. I don’t completely understand all of the implications, except that we are shooting at this infection with our biggest guns, but it just keeps on coming. In her introspective manner, she shared with me today that if she had known she would lose her sight, she would have invested it more wisely in the things she read and watched: “What if I go completely blind and can’t read the Bible? I have to get more serious about memorizing.” This morning a do

Amy does not feel well enough to blog today, so the sub is blogging on her behalf. Yesterday Amy thought she saw some new spots in her left eye and felt that she was experiencing some of the same sensations that she had during her stroke, so she went to the doctor. He said that he sees no new lesions, but that doesn’t mean that she couldn’t have another stroke. He recommended that she begin steroids to reduce any retinal inflammation. Amy continues to need your prayers. Blessings, David
